#1DAD

While making my thesis collection titled #1DAD, I was particularly interested in human relationships. Fascinated by traditional parental roles, my process started by examining the archetypal relationship between fathers and their sons - one often characterized by an emotionless predisposition and a fear of vulnerability. I visualized the classic tailored shirt as a representation of “perfect” masculinity and used a combination of sketching and sampling to subvert its traditional form. As I am now reflecting on my thesis collection, I see the importance in human interaction and the need to deconstruct common social practices to better understand them. My own understanding of why male-male relationships are often strained became more clear.
